Excessive charges for delayed bill payment

Telecom Services Complaint Date: November 20, 2016
Dear Sir,

The bill of Rs 861/- for September 2016 could not be paid within the due date. This along with a surcharge of Rs20/- (for delay), that is Rs 881/- was paid on 20.10.2016.

However, I have been charged a reconnection fee of Rs 100/- in the bill for October 2016. This is apparently for disconnecting my connection for not paying bill and then reconnecting after receipt of bill.

MTNL has the policy of penalising customer for delay in bill payment (by way of surcharge of Rs 20/-). In spite of this penalty, I was again charged again by Rs100/- by way of reconnection fee.

This two penalties for one delayed payment of a less than 1 month is exorbitant and harsh upon consumers.

I request you to take action on utility companies like MTNL to refrain them from charging consumers multiple times and exorbitantly for minor lapses.

Being a utility service, consumers have no choice but to make payment in such cases and the Service Provider could be taking advantage of the dominance.
