We booked The Circle Club as the venue of our daughter's marriage on October, 2018 which was to be held on 30th November, 2019. We contacted Mr. Arunangshu Biswas(vide telephone number +91 7278786991 and email id: arunangshu.biswas@oyorooms.com) for booking of The Circle Club on October 2018, and on his invitation, we met him at The Circle Club on October 2018. We were under the impression that he was an official of The Circle Club, however, it was later revealed to us that he was employee of Oyo Rooms, India.
We had a detailed discussion with Mr. Bijoy Das (Banquet Manager, The Circle Club) and Mr. Arunangshu Biswas at our residence AB-194, Salt Lake City, Sector-1, Kolkata-700064 on 6.11.2019. A number of points were discussed in the meeting and they promised a lot of things there, most of which they confirmed via email on 21.11.2019.
They insisted us to pay the entire amount 7days before the event and we paid the full amount in advance 7 days before the event.
One of the main points of the meeting was:
The club authority will provide two complimentary rooms out of which Room no. 101 is a bridal makeup room and another is a suite, will be provided by 1 p.m on 30.11.2019 where all the amenities for bridal makeup will be available including a mirror and two special lights.
On the day of the event, the most disappointing things took place.
1) At 1 pm, NO rooms, including the bridal makeup room and the suite were available as they were ALREADY BOOKED by other parties, as informed by authorities. After a lot of requests, at around 3 pm we were given a “meeting room” with dreamy lights without any mirror, no proper seating arrangements and no other amenities for makeup. We had to let the very renowned makeup artists whom we had hired, do the makeup in that very room since we had no other option but they were very unhappy because of it.
2) The ceremony had to be delayed for 1 hour, and it started at 7 pm instead of 6 pm for this initial hazard.
3) They stopped serving starters by 9 pm even after agreeing to serve the starters at the counter, but not individually till the ceremony was over. But they packed up all the counters, including tea, coffee and starters in the hall area where people were meeting the bride by 9 p.m without ever asking --- resulting in an unwanted social humiliation.
4) We placed an order of 400 non-veg plates, but after serving about 150 guests, they started running out of Mutton and Fish Fry which were the premier delicacies in the menu just after more or less 150 plates. After repeated requests and commotion among my dignified guests and the extremely arrogant staff, they could somehow manage to get some mutton but no fish fry on the guests’ plates for another 140-150 guests. Even that mutton was also not sufficient for those 140-150 guests as they were very stringent about serving each guests for more than 1 or 2 pcs and that even also ran out after 10 p.m and the food was of inferior quality henceforth throughout the night. At last to combat the situation on that night I had to purchase mutton biriyani locally to serve my dignified guests.
The entire event was a series of embarrassing, careless, extremely unprofessional decisions and antics by both the staff and the club authorities which resulted in utter humiliation and embarrassment for the entire family in front of our society and guests. The arrogant staff coupled with the careless and unprofessional club authorities, witnessed a perfectly great wedding come to it’s knees before it’s guests and the member’s of the groom’s family, which Sir, as you will understand may well be one of the most dreadful nightmares for an Indian daughter’s father.
