Not informed about the charges, I took a credit card in 2007.

I took a credit card in 2007. I got to know about the joining fee after receiving my first statement. The executive didnot inform me about the joining fee. Hence, i denied paying the joining fee and I used the card once for shopping and paid the due amount what i used and did not pay the joining fee. After somedays i lost my credit card and i didnt got my new card till now. On the joining fee they kept on charging without my knowledge and they made ita huge amount say 20000.
Asking me to pay the total due.
Plz help me
