Original Complaint:
Dear Sir,
I, Shishir Gupta, am an NRI living in the United States. I hold the OCI card (enclosed).
I am trying to help the poor family in India to get themselves on their feet so that they can bring food on the table and provide education to their children.
Recently, around 4 months back, I bought this E-Rickshaw for our domestic help, Deepchand Rajbhar, who was with my father, till he finally passed away in Oct 2020. This vehicle was purchased in the name of his son, Sunil RajBhar.
I paid the full asking price for this vehicle. It, however, appears that the original internal part of the vehicle was replaced with aftermarket and used components. The motor burnt on the second day which had to be replaced. After a few days the Ball/Bearing failed which had to be replaced again. Now the battery has started to deteriorate and currently it barely keeps half the charge that it is supposed to. A brand-new fresh Lead/Acid battery can recycle charge between 300 to 400 times at 100% of its capacity and hence the 1-year warranty is generally provided.
I paid the full price what was asked without any negotiation and have received a product that is faulty and does not work. The business that sold us the product refuses to acknowledge the problem and they are trying to blame it to the customer for the problems with this vehicle. I have personally tried to call him multiple times and now he refuses to take my calls.
I would like to make these 2 observations that I would like you to consider.
1.) It’s the poorest people in our society that need all the help that they can get. Being poor and illiterate they are most vulnerable to be taken advantage of hence need all your protection to help them get on their feet.
Sir, how can we move forward as a society/country if we do not elevate these poor people out of poverty and help them lead a better life where they can feed themselves and provide quality education to their children.
It appears that the business that sell these kinds of products are trying to generate more business for themselves by selling defective items so that these hardworking people can come to them again and again to get their product repaired. There must be set or rules and ethics while conducting a business and I feel that the administration should enforce some form of moral ethics and rules.
2.) I am anticipating buying a few more of these vehicles for a few more families in the near future. Now I am not sure if I will get something genuine that comes from the manufacturer. Can you let me know who should I get in touch with who can guarantee that the product I am purchasing is indeed genuine?
Sir, I consider myself blessed to be in a position to be able to make a difference in the lives of people, to help them where they can fend for themselves and their families. This incident, however, has left me with this feeling of bitterness and cheated. It appears that however hard I try, there is always someone in the way who will try to extract your money using unfair and illegal means.
I’ll really appreciate if this may be looked at and I am sincerely hoping that you will find some ways and means to enforce rules and regulations to bring fairness and some form of morality in business.
Thank you for your time and help.
Warm Regards
