Before warranty period expires, shopkeeper asking to share the cost of material

The kitchen chimney is under warranty period. The so explained chimney glass was heatproof. But it suddenly got burst and the broken glass pieces scattered all over the big kitchen.very luckily mom was just out for a minute at that time, otherwise she would have been seriously injured.
However now the shopkeeper is asking to share an amount of the cost for the damaged parts which is under warranty period.
This type of product should bear health and life insurance, i personally think so after this incident at my home.
