Subject: FORMAL LEGAL GRIEVANCE – Wrongful Conversion of Prepaid Connections into Postpaid, Forfeiture of Prepaid Benefits, Financial Loss and Harassment – Immediate Restoration Requested
Respected Sir/Madam,
I am constrained to submit this formal grievance against Bharti Airtel Limited regarding the wrongful and highly prejudicial conversion of my prepaid mobile connection into postpaid, followed by the conversion of another prepaid Wi-Fi/telecom connection into postpaid, resulting in substantial financial loss, forfeiture of prepaid validity/benefits and continuous mental harassment.
The facts of the matter are as follows:
1. That my Airtel prepaid mobile connection was converted into postpaid on 07.08.2026.
2. That I had already paid for a long-term prepaid plan/recharge having validity of approximately one year, including a prepaid recharge of ₹3,999. The conversion into postpaid has resulted in the effective loss/forfeiture of the prepaid validity and benefits for which I had already paid.
3. After the aforesaid conversion, I repeatedly approached Airtel Store, Customer Care and also communicated through e-mail with the Airtel Bihar & Jharkhand office at Patna, requesting restoration of my prepaid connection.
4. During my communication with Airtel Customer Care, a complaint was registered and I was provided a complaint/ticket number. I was specifically informed by the Customer Care representative that, for conversion back to prepaid, I was required to first pay the outstanding/dues amount of ₹260, after which my connection would be converted back to prepaid.
5. Relying upon the representation and assurance made by Airtel Customer Care, I duly paid ₹260. The payment was made specifically in connection with the requested conversion back to prepaid.
6. However, despite receiving the said ₹260 and despite my repeated requests, Airtel did not restore my connection to prepaid.
7. More seriously, another Airtel Wi-Fi/telecom connection standing in a different name, which was separately maintained under a prepaid plan having approximately four months of validity still remaining, was also converted into postpaid.
8. I immediately contacted Customer Care again, approximately one hour after becoming aware of the second conversion, but no satisfactory response or corrective action was provided.
9. Thereafter, a complaint was again registered and I received a complaint/ticket reference. Although a call was subsequently received, the matter was not effectively resolved and no satisfactory written explanation or restoration was provided.
10. As a consequence, both connections have now been placed under postpaid arrangements, while the prepaid plans/validity already paid for by me have effectively been rendered unusable/forfeited.
11. I have now been informed that the combined monthly bill/financial liability for the two connections may be approximately ₹1,018 per month. This is causing me continuing financial loss and unnecessary financial liability which I had never intended to incur.
12. I specifically state that I did not voluntarily agree to surrender or forfeit the prepaid benefits already paid for, nor did I voluntarily agree to bear the resulting financial loss.
13. The subsequent demand/requirement that I bear postpaid charges after the loss of my prepaid benefits is highly disputed and requires a proper written explanation from Airtel.
14. I have already spent considerable time contacting Airtel Store, Customer Care and Airtel officials and have repeatedly attempted to resolve the matter without litigation. Despite this, the grievance remains unresolved and I have suffered considerable mental harassment, inconvenience, loss of time and financial loss for approximately one month.
In view of the above, I hereby formally call upon Bharti Airtel Limited to:
A. Immediately restore both affected connections to their respective prepaid status, subject to verification of the original account/plan records;
B. Restore/reinstate the unexpired prepaid validity and benefits which were available before the wrongful conversion;
C. Restore the approximately four months' remaining prepaid validity of the second prepaid Wi-Fi/telecom connection;
D. Restore/credit the benefit/value of the long-term prepaid plan/recharge, including the ₹3,999 prepaid recharge/plan benefits, which have been lost or rendered unusable due to the disputed migration;
E. Refund/adjust the ₹260 paid by me pursuant to Airtel Customer Care's specific representation that payment of the said amount would enable conversion back to prepaid;
F. Withdraw/waive any postpaid charges, dues, rental, taxes or other financial liabilities arising solely because of the disputed/wrongful migration;
G. Provide a complete written statement showing the date, time, mode, channel, authorization/consent and system records on the basis of which each prepaid connection was converted into postpaid;
H. Provide copies/details of the consent, OTP, request, application, call recording, system logs or other authorization relied upon by Airtel for each conversion;
I. Provide the complete history of all complaints/tickets raised by me, including complaint numbers, dates, action taken and closure remarks;
J. Provide a written explanation as to why the ₹260 payment was accepted after I was informed that payment of the said amount would facilitate conversion back to prepaid, but the promised conversion was not completed;
K. Compensate me appropriately for the financial loss, inconvenience, repeated visits/calls/e-mails, mental harassment and loss of prepaid benefits caused by the failure to resolve the matter despite repeated complaints.
I further request that no adverse action, disconnection, late-payment charge, collection activity or negative account action be taken against me in respect of any disputed postpaid amount arising from the above circumstances until the grievance is finally adjudicated.
This representation may kindly be treated as a FORMAL GRIEVANCE/APPEAL and be disposed of by a reasoned written order.
If the matter is not resolved satisfactorily within the applicable grievance-redressal mechanism, I shall be constrained to approach the appropriate governmental/regulatory and consumer grievance forums, including the Department of Telecommunications/CPGRAMS and the appropriate Consumer Commission, seeking restoration of prepaid benefits, refund/adjustment, compensation, costs and such other relief as may be available in law.
I reserve all my legal rights and remedies.
