I am using Airtel Mobile phone number 8527897345.
While I was in the US, Airtel activated International Roaming on my phone without my request or authorization. On the contrary, when I landed in the US on Dec 09, 2019 I received an SMS from Airtel stating :"Welcome to United States! Airtel's international roaming service is not active on your number. Activate the service & stay connected. Opt for our roaming packs & enjoy UNLIMITED Min free incoming calls 3 GB data and 250 mins of free local/calls to India & 100 SMS at just Rs.3599 for 10 days. To activate this pack or for details on other packs, call +919910099100 (International Tollfree) or clickwww.airtel.in/ir (data charges apply). Airtel wishes you a happy stay."
It is clearly stated by Airtel that the International Roaming is NOT ACTIVE on my number. However, this was not correct. Airtel had surreptiously, without my knowledge, started International Roaming on my number and by mistake some usage was done by me. If International Roaming had not been activated unilaterally by Airtel, these usages would have been refused. The kind of usage includes receiving a call when sleeping, some SMS sent inadvertantly and one whatsapp message sent using mobile data because the wifi had suddenly become weak even though Mobile Data had been switched off.
Airtel is now saying that International Roaming is always active (contrary to what they say in the SMS) and that the SMS refers only to activation of International Roaming Pack and not to International Roaming.
They are refusing to change the bill by removing the International Roaming charges.
