Samsung Tab 2 battery drains out within minutes to 30%

The battery in my Tab 2 drains out fast from 100%-30% or less within minutes. But the Tab works fine when on charge . There's an irratic indication of battery % when u restart from say 30%...it may show u 57% on restart and again drain fast and switch off.
