I had checked the price of a King Fisher beer bottle at an outlet in Sanderao Village in Maharashtra.
The MRP was Rs 97/- and the selling price is 120/-. Also the bill for the transaction is not provided
On enquiry it is told that it is the standard of the village as per the instructions of the contractor. A little more investigation revealed that all shops in the village are with the same contractor (a case of monopoly) and the taxes and payments are done as per rules once the liquor consignment is received in the go-down. Also, since it was afternoon it is priced 120/- but during nights it is sold at Rs 150/- too.Shocking!This is a major crime against the villagers.
Action may be initiated against such contractors who rule the sale of liquor at such small places.
